Paranormal Activity (2007)

Posted 27 Sep 2009 in FEATURES

Paranormal Activity has been making the rounds in small film/fright festivals. Oren Peli’s debut as writer/director was purchased by Paramount and is making a limited release in cities around the States at present. So for so good.

As the press juggernaut rolls on, we are wondering if this little horror movie could be this decade’s Blair Witch Project. Most current horror films seem to have as much fright as a wet fart and rely more on hyper-violence to make us squeamish. This picture seems to go back to the basics and is, at the time of writing, receiving a 100% fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

The story centres around a young couple who encounter an apparition that wreaks havoc on them during the course of trying to get a good nights sleep. So they take to recording these events.

At present there is no actual release date for Paranormal Activity. You can request that is come to the UK, and get those fat cats at Paramount to do something about it. Simply go to the movie’s website, sign your post code and make the request.

I myself have come into contact with a ghost, and no I wasn’t drunk or high. It scared the fucking shit out of me, and hope to never encounter such a force again in my soured existence. As I do believe in ghosts, demons, Stevie Nicks, and Michael Jackson as the Boogey Man, this might make for a good watch. But going on the testimonials and reviews online, this is sure to be something a little more original.

Blair Witch was a good idea and somewhat creepy. I wouldn’t call it “scary movie”. I would have left their broke asses in the woods and found me the nearest bar in which to drown my woes. Just let that Blair Witch try it with me and see what fucking happens. I got her project hanging (with snacks underneath).

It seems that Paramount is laying the groundwork for a viral marketing ploy, like the internet buzz for Blair Witch. Simply let the viewing public do the promotion work by talking about it … So bring it on, and get the show on the (UK) road.
